Your new role
You will play a vital part in the design team and will be supporting the head of safety and design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the studio teams to deliver the CDM/BSA Principal Designer role on projects in the UK, including providing advice on Health and Safety design risk management principles.
- Advise designated individuals and specific Project Design Team members (including client organisations) on Health and Safety risk management matters, to fulfil the duties as Principal Designer in accordance with current UK.
- Act as "Principal Designer" and carry out duties and services to the client and other duties holders, as set out by the CDM (2015) Regulations and contract.
- Review projects and designs on both a planned and ad hoc basis giving priority to projects where appointed as Principal Designer and advising on any other projects, as appropriate, to allow officewide consistency on Pre-Construction Health and Safety matters and standards.
- Assist with the creating and completion of Design Risk Assessments on both internal tools and external tools (if required).
- Critically appraise Design Risk Assessments submitted by Project Design Team and organise review sessions accordingly.
- Assist with the liaison with external stakeholders and enforcing Authorities (for example, HSE)
- Assist with compiling and developing guidance material and management tools.
- Develop and deliver training to in-house design disciplines.
- Carry out research on application of Health and Safety Standards (National and International) and good practice knowledge of and compliance with inhouse procedures and standards.
What you'll need to succeed
- Hold a degree level in an architectural, architectural technology or engineering subject.
- Design experience, preferably architectural or engineering.
- Demonstrate an ability to undertake the above responsibilities.
- Demonstrate experience and understanding of design and construction management and methodologies.
- Proven skills in the delivery of CDM/H&S consultancy services.
- Pragmatic, resourceful and persuasive.
- Able to manage and prioritise tasks and time efficiently in accordance with workload and project requirements.
- Ability to adjust to project specific timeframes and key milestones.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English - articulate and diplomatic manner.
- Able to demonstrate initiative and proactive approach to daily tasks.
- Methodical, accurate and consistent attention to detail.
- Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Able to manage sensitive and sometimes confidential information.
Desirable
- NEBOSH Construction or other related H&S qualifications
- Holding a relevant professional membership (such as ARB, RIBA, ICE, APS, IOSH) or working towards.
