The Health Safety & Environment Manager is responsible for providing HSE support, advice and solutions to the business while driving best practice and ensuring compliance on health and safety issues for the Leicester Operations and Bishop Stortford Operations as required.

Reporting to the Local Operations Director, the HS& E Manager will also maintain a link to the Global business through the Director of HSE to ensure the global standards are met whist maintaining and developing the local Safety Management System and IOS45001 accreditation.

Occasional visits to support our Bishop Stortford facility will also be required.

Duties

  1. Provide proactive, efficient and professional HSE advice, coaching and support to facilities and functional teams.
  2. Work with the allocated sites management teams to communicate and drive compliance with HSE standards to ensure a safe working environment.
  3. Ensure that effective management of health, safety and environment is embedded at an operational level within the business, and that managers and employees at all levels are aware of their HSE responsibilities.
  4. Contribute to the development of and support the effective implementation of the divisional HSE strategy, participating in the regular review of the strategy and its implementation.
  5. Support the development, monitoring and maintenance of Management Systems that are aligned to the ISO 45001 and 14001 management standards.
  6. Manage the effective implementation of HSE management systems, policies, standards, procedures and guidelines.
  7. Manage and drive the implementation of measure to improve safety and reduce risk with a practical approach to prioritising actions. 
  8. Manage the risk assessment process to ensure risks are identified, reduced and managed including training of the risk assessment team.
  9. Develop and implement environmental process and procedures to manage and improve environmental performance.
  10. Report on HS&E matters internally to site staff and management and to the wider business.

Requirements

  1. Professional H&S Qualification with Chartered membership of IOSH preferred
  2. Environmental qualification – IEMA Certificate or equivalent
  3. Proven experience in a H&S management role.
  4. Experience with multi-site operations.
  5. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  6. Good communication and influencing skills and ability to engage with individuals in all areas of the business
  7. Pragmatic approach with ability to effectively balance technical and commercial demands
