This role is part of the Workplace Health and Safety Office.  The team are experienced health and safety practitioners and support staff providing a centralised service of advice, guidance and support in all aspects of workplace health and safety across the University. This service supports the University in achieving the highest standards of health and safety management and performance, ensuring statutory health and safety obligations are fulfilled by enabling staff to understand and effectively manage health and safety risks associated with their work activities. The Workplace Health and Safety Office is an impartial, independent and institutional team within the Directorate of Technology, Estates and Facilities [DTEF]

 

You will be part of the corporate team of Health and Safety professionals working to develop, implement and continually drive improvement and support senior managers of departments and subsidiaries based across the University of York.  In your role you will provide strategic support and also act as day-to-day liaison point. You will offer high quality technical assistance, and maintain positive relationships between the Health and Safety team and University departments and subsidiaries. 

 

We are looking for two Business Partners:

 

1. Health and Safety Business Partner - Faculty of Science 

 

This role is more specialised and requires experience and relevant knowledge in a scientific area.  A scientific subject degree and post degree experience in a laboratory environment such as regulatory assurance compliance knowledge or laboratory quality compliance  and the ability to engage across the Faculty of Science to continually drive a Health and Safety culture in line with a complex risk profile and enabling  high quality research and teaching. 

 

2. Health and Safety Business Partner- Faculty of Social Science 

 

We are looking for a highly experienced Health and Safety professional that can provide business partnering to these areas to drive a continuous improvement approach to Health and Safety in line with their risk profile and enabling high quality research and teaching. 

 

Both Business partners will be expected to build and lead in a University-wide set of risks in line with their knowledge and skills.

 

Science - this would include chemical management and fieldwork

 

Social Sciences - Would include travel overseas and risks associated with this faculty

 

You will work flexibly across a number of departments and subsidiary companies under the supervision of Head of Safety Operations providing consistent business partner support, Health and Safety management advice and  be an effective contributing member of the Health and Safety team.  

 

The posts are available on a full time (37 hours per week) or part time (29.6 hours per week) basis with salary reduced pro-rata if part time.   You will be required to be on campus for at least  70% of your time and there may be occasions when you will be required to work outside normal working hours.

 

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Level 6 qualification. (Qualifications at this level include a degree. Please view the full list). We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-uk qualifications or equivalent professional experience.   Professional Health and Safety  qualification i.e. Ideally Grad IOSH and working towards Chartership Or similarly recognised qualification.  Comprehensive working knowledge of health and safety legislation and the ability to transfer that knowledge in a practical and engaging manner Previous experience /Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety practices and procedures used in large complex organisations  Experience of working in the HE sector or an analogous sector e.g.NHS or similar Evidence of upholding our behaviours as detailed within the accompanying person specification.
