Overview

About the Role

Capital Projects, within the Estates and Facilities Directorate, are responsible for the Development of all campuses forming the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) estate. The team manage a large capital programme from inception to completion, delivering projects on budget, on programme and to a high standard of quality. The improvement in facilities supports academic research and enhances the student experience.

Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety, Estates and Facilities you will manage competing assessments of consultants and contractor teams, undertake site audits and provide professional health and safety guidance to Capital Projects and to support the Estates and Facilities Directorate (QMUL). You will facilitate control of safety and occupational health risks by supporting it in the implementation of a health and safety management system, which will promote compliance with legislative requirements, help ensure conformity to the University’s Health & Safety Policy Statement and Framework and promote a positive safety culture at QMUL.

You will support local coordinators and assist with the identification of training needs of staff. They will be expected to develop and deliver relevant training programmes to QMUL staff and work with them to improve health and safety competence and behaviour. You will also help to ensure the Estates and Facilities Directorate remains compliant so that it can meet its legal requirements in terms of Health, Safety and Compliance and promote, develop and establish a positive safety culture within the Estates and Facilities Directorate.

About You

You will be required to hold NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and be prepared to (or is currently studying) for the NEBOSH Construction Certificate.  You will also have significant, relevant experience in a construction health & safety role for a similar sized complex organization. Experience of dealing with Estates and Facilities related H&S issues relating to construction, contractors, maintenance, asbestos, legionella and CDM 2015 is essential.

The team manage a large capital programme from inception to completion, delivering projects on budget, on programme and to a high standard of quality. The improvement in facilities supports academic research and enhances the student experience. All projects are completed with the highest standards of Health and Safety.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London but will be expected to work across QMUL responsible campuses. It is a full time, permanent appointment. Starting salary will be in the range of £51,048 - £56,921 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

A market supplement is attached to this post, which is a separate payment in addition to the normal salary. A review of market conditions will be carried out periodically to establish if the market supplement should continue.
