The Head of Health, Safety & Compliance Branch will play a key oversight and support role, promoting a proactive culture of continuous improvement and assuring AFBI’s health, safety and compliance. The post holder will report to the Head of Corporate Affairs.

AFBI requires a qualified and talented individual with vision and influence to take responsibility for, and promote occupational and biological health and safety, biocontainment, dangerous goods and waste management systems across AFBI. Ensuring compliance with all current and future health and safety, biocontainment and waste management legislation, the post holder will develop and embed a positive safety culture to ensure the safeguarding of staff, visitors
and contractors.

The post holder will provide effective leadership to the Branch and will be proactive in leading the continuous improvement of AFBI health and safety, biosafety and waste practices and will be responsible for the development and delivery of an effective health and safety system, standard operating procedures, policies and associated plans and projects to ensure compliance with statutory and legal requirements.

The postholder will have responsibilities for each of the three distinct, but interconnected, functions of (Occupational Health and Safety, Biosafety and Dangerous Goods and Waste & Resource Management) that make up the branch as well as responsibilities associated with managing and leading the Branch. The Branch provides advice and guidance across the Institute to a varied platform of activities including: - laboratories, farms, fieldwork as well as the Research Vessel and other smaller vessels.
