MandM Direct is looking for a Health and Safety Manager to be based at our distribution centre in Moreton-on-Lugg, Hereford.
The main responsibilities of the role will be to ensure company compliance with prevailing legislation on Health, Safety and, Environmental issues and to maintain the facilities of the company in a safe and presentable order. To manage the day to day functions of the Health and Safety team, and partner with all stakeholders across the business.
General:
- Ensure company compliance with prevailing Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Report any concerns/observations to the Director responsible for Health and Safety as required.
- Give presentations to the Board on S,H,E matters as required/directed.
- Deputise for the Director Responsible for Health and Safety in his absence.
- Investigate accidents fully and present findings to the Board as required.
- Be the company liaison for any interaction with the Health and Safety Executive and Local
- Environmental Health Officers.
- Promote Wellbeing, Health, Safety and Environmental issues within the company.
- To manage and develop those identified above as ‘responsible for’.
Health and Safety:
- Author and develop Safe Systems of Works.
- Author and develop company Risk Assessments in conjunction with key stakeholders
- Ensure all FLT initial and refresher training is completed by all Man-Up FLT Operators.
- Ensure Health and Safety audits are conducted as appropriate
- Ensure all new employees receive adequate Health and Safety induction training.
- Ensure Representatives of Employee Safety, (RoES), are available to all staff and that they receive appropriate training.
- Maintain a system of the recording of First Aid Incidents and Near Misses.
- Make provisions for the periodic meetings of First Aiders, Fire Marshals and RoES.
- Ensure compliance with COSHH Regulations and the provision of COSHH safety data sheets.
Fire:
- Conduct a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment (FRA).
- Ensure all staff receive appropriate fire awareness training.
- Ensure sufficient Fire Marshals are trained and refreshed.
- Ensure weekly/monthly/annual fire checks/tests are conducted.
- Ensure fire evacuation drills are executed at a minimum of 12 monthly schedules.
- Liaise directly with the management of the Fire alarm service provider.
- Be the point of liaison with the Fire and Rescue Service on all issues, including any attendance to site.
AOB
- Conduct Health and Safety training as required, or utilise external training providers where outside of own abilities.
- Attend Health and Safety training courses and seminars as required for the good and benefit of the company.

Essential to be successful within the role
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
- NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills across all levels
- Confident and effective problem solver and decision maker
- Sound knowledge and experience of warehouse operations
- Proven management experience
