£26,446 - £29,174 per annum (pay & reward review pending*)

Mobile throughout East Devon with a range of flexibilities, including hybrid working, aligned to our Worksmart arrangements

Full time

About the role

Based within our Corporate Safety team working throughout our district, you will carry out audits, inspections and staff training sessions aimed at ensuring our compliance with health and safety legislation and best practice across the Council, with an emphasis on higher risk services. This will involve developing excellent working relationships with service managers and staff as you review, consult over and redraft operational risk assessments and procedures and recommend improved safety processes and maintaining safe systems of work. You will also co-ordinate employee health surveillance activity in relation to HAV, audio and night work screening. With authority to either take direct action or escalate non-compliance to reduce risks as appropriate, you will play a key role in embedding a robust approach to safe working practices.

About you

You will already hold a recognised qualification such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent together with detailed professional knowledge of health and safety legislation, codes of practice and guidance specifically related to frontline services in a local authority or similar. Ideally, you will also possess an IOSH accredited Hand Arm Vibration competent persons certification to assess vibration risks and preventative measures in the workplace. Able to influence others you will also be adept at communicating using a range of media and to a broad audience to ensure shared understanding and to embed safe practices. Methodical and organised, you will be able to co-ordinate and manage several projects at a time making use of available ICT based systems to meet your objectives.

About us

In return, you will be part of a Platinum Investors in People (IiP) organisation which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment in which people want to live, work, visit and enjoy now, and for future generations.  And with our wide range of health and wellbeing benefits, our highly flexible and collaborative hybrid Worksmart working arrangements as well as our commitment to continuous learning and development, you can be confident of joining a dedicated community of colleagues who are Happy, Healthy and Here.
