Conventional Safety Lead

Location: Satellite Delivery Centre, Bridgwater - with some travel to HPC site required.

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 dependent on experience

Employment type: Permanent

Closing date: 30th September 2022

Join EDF as a Conventional Safety Lead, and you’ll join one of the most exciting and challenging projects within EDF, as we continue to lead the rebirth of nuclear in the UK.

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As a Conventional Safety Lead, you will be responsible for acting on behalf of the HPC Client for ensuring that all HPC activities are conducted in a way that protects the health and safety of the workforce and the public in line with our Zero Harm ambition.

This is an excellent opportunity for a great communicator, who can demonstrate broad experience in construction and nuclear settings. You will apply all of your knowledge and experience across the new nuclear projects and with our construction partners, with the singular commitment being that safety is the project’s overriding priority.

Pay, benefits and culture…

Alongside a salary of £55,000 - £65,000, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

In your role, you will be based at the Satellite Delivery Centre in Bridgwater, with some expectation of travel to the HPC site required.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself.  We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.  We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Ensuring the Project’s compliance with the obligations as stated in Construction (Design Management) Regulations 2015, in specific reference to the Client role.
  • Supporting the Project’s health and safety management process, procedures, standards and systems within the Integrated Management System to ensure that health and safety risks are managed proportionately.
  • Interfacing with external certification bodies and/or regulators as required.
  • Undertaking audits, reviews, and assessments to identify and share best practices and shortcomings in arrangements to ensure that the project delivers to safety, quality, cost, and programme.
  • Reporting on the status of health and safety on the project as required.
  • Ensuring high standards and quality of the Client’s arrangements in relation to managing health and safety.
  • Supporting the project’s compliance with Nuclear Site Licence condition LC7 (investigate incidents) by way of ensuring the correct recording and classification of health and safety events, thereby triggering a proportionate investigative and corrective response.
  • Helping drive capture of innovation and best practice for health and safety on the project via leveraging of experience and existing network, seeking information via industry channels, and embracing the HPC Way behavioural programme.

Who you are…

Your background may include some of the following:

  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • Membership of Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) and/or EIT or equivalent or working towards Chartership.
  • Detailed knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 – requirements to be compliant, and how to comply in an operational setting.
  • Detailed knowledge of health & safety practices within the construction industry.
  • Familiar with working in a high hazard industry.
  • Detailed knowledge of legal obligations within the construction industry for health and safety, allied to broad experience in interacting with regulators.
