About our organisation

The Soil Association, formed in 1946, is the only UK charity which works across the spectrum of human health, the environment and animal welfare. That's because we cannot tackle these issues in isolation.

We campaign for change, supporting farming innovation, serving healthy food in communities, supporting and growing the organic market, and protecting forests. We couldn't do this without our supporters, partners, donors and dedicated staff. We make a difference in the world where it's needed the most.

About the opportunity

At the Soil Association, the health, safety, and wellbeing of our staff and all those we work alongside are of paramount importance. You will be working with colleagues across the charitable group, taking in the activities of the Soil Association Charity and its trading subsidiary Soil Association Certification. We undertake a broad range of activities that span working from our offices and at home, running external events with participants ranging from members of the public to schoolchildren to farmers, and spending significant time working with clients in factories, farms, and forests including overseas. We aspire for everyone involved in these activities to finish their working day as or even healthier than when they began.

We are also embarking on a programme targeting improvements to our internal environmental practices. So, alongside your work on health, safety, and wellbeing, there is the added opportunity to bring transferable capabilities and skills to support the implementation of this programme.

About you

You will be a qualified health and safety professional capable of providing clear, authoritative, and practical advice across and at all levels of the organisation. You will bring a thoroughness to your work that ensures we comply with our employer's responsibilities and operate a quality approach to our health and safety system. You must also be able to show the personal qualities and skills that will influence behaviour change and help us build a safety-first culture.

You may have prior experience working with environmental management systems, but if not, you will be keen to expand your knowledge of this topic, and you will be able to demonstrate how your career has equipped you with the skills to take on a different area of responsibility.
