The Port of Dover is Europe's busiest ferry port, handling 33% of UK-EU trade, worth £144bn per annum. Each year more than 2 million freight vehicles, 2 million tourist vehicles and 10 million passengers pass through the Port. Providing the infrastructure to support this diverse and busy 24/7 operation requires a dedicated team of people working in a diverse range of roles. Job summary:

You will coordinate the Safety Team to provide professional support and advice to a large and diverse business on all aspects of Health and Safety. You will also drive forward compliance with all safety legislation and initiatives, through delivery of the SHEQ Plan to support the business to develop further a safety culture where everyone takes personal responsibility. The role also requires the daily management of the safety team and to maintain the safety elements of the Port’s integrated management system.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience of health and safety management within related industry
  • Chartered safety professional (CMIOSH, or working towards)
  • NVQ / Diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Organisation, planning and communication skills are essential - you are responsible for coordinating a variety of projects, ideas and campaigns with people across the organisation
  • Be able to undertake comprehensive accident investigation including root cause analysis
  • Experience of managing and implementing ISO 45001
  • Effective communicator across all levels of our organisation
  • Be able to liaise with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Be able to be on 24 hour call out on a rotational basis
  • Full UK driving licence and use of own vehicle
