Supporting the University’s four academic Faculties and our Research, Business and Innovation team.

Create a positive H&S culture in a diverse and complex risk-based environment.

The opportunity

With over 30,000 students and 3,800 staff, UWE Bristol is one of the largest providers of higher education in the South West. We operate across three major campuses – which have a range of teaching and research facilities including a number of art and engineering workshops, healthcare skills suites, laboratories and lecture theatres. Staff and students also undertake a range of fieldwork and overseas travel. Good health and safety advice and support is in high demand.

Joining our busy Health and Safety team, you’ll work as a business partner to the University’s four academic faculties, as well as our Research, Business and Innovation Service. It’s an opportunity to nurture and champion a positive health and safety culture by engaging and influencing at all levels. Coaching, training, advising, auditing and collaboration will all be part of your day-to-day work.

You’ll also work with H&S colleagues on developing and supporting the implementation of the university health and safety management system. Good IT skills will be essential: you can expect to analyse and interpret data, draft complex reports, and deliver briefings to others.

The person

Extensive experience of delivering health and safety in a large and complex organisation is essential, but it’s your energy and enthusiasm that will make the real difference. A well-rounded professional, you’ll be NEBOSH-qualified and a member of IOSH, but you’ll also be an exceptional communicator, both in person and in writing. You’ll have a customer-focused, pragmatic, and proactive approach to health and safety, and will be highly organised with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
