Permanent / Full-time

The University of Bedfordshire is an internationally recognised and award winning institution with a heritage of quality education going back more than 100 years.

The University has two main campuses in Luton and Bedford, with health teaching provision in Aylesbury at the world renowned Stoke Mandeville Hospital.  We are also active in Milton Keynes, London and Birmingham, as well as globally, with a growing portfolio of international partnerships as far afield as Egypt, Vietnam, Oman and Mauritius.

At Bedfordshire we have a vibrant and cosmopolitan student population that includes around 20,000 students from over 100 countries. We are a modern university that believes in nurturing our students to become educated, employable and entrepreneurial global citizens.

The University is now seeking to recruit a Head of Health and Safety.  The individual will be professional, motivated and service focused with excellent communication and organisational skills.

A key aspect of the role is to take lead responsibility for the development and maintenance of health and safety strategies, policies and practice, and to advise managers on how the University can provide a safe, healthy and secure environment across all campuses for all its students, staff, visitors and contractors.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced senior manager and hold qualifications and membership for recognised health and safety bodies and have strong knowledge of health and safety legislation.  The role holder, having previously worked in a medium to large organisation, will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills through offering health and safety advice and guidance to managers.

The role will primarily be based at the main Luton Campus, however, the role does require regular travel to other University campuses and study centres for meetings and to regularly review the health and safety compliance across the estate.
