Are you a proven DSEAR Process Safety Engineer who is excited by the prospect of being an integral part of the Health and Safety team within an award-winning business in the water, waste and energy industry? If so, we have a great opportunity for you in our Group Health and Safety team as a DSEAR Process Safety Engineer!

The role

The DSEAR Process Safety Engineer is a central role, responsible for developing and supporting process safety systems and services across the Wessex Water Group/YTL Group of companies in the UK. The role supports Wessex Water Group’s DSEAR and associated statutory safety compliance.

Reporting to the DSEAR Process Safety Manager and working with operational managers, health and safety professionals and external parties, you will provide support to ensure effective process safety, systems and compliance are in place.

You will also provide expert advice on hazard identification (HAZID), hazard operability (HAZOP), layers of protection analysis (LOPA) and safety integrity level (SIL), while also promoting safe working practices and challenging unsafe behaviours as you come across them.

You will complete site incident investigation, root cause analysis, reporting. You will also recommend remedial actions and facilitate training workshops where necessary, including supporting and developing course content.

Additionally, you will undertake regular audits and inspections, while reviewing/challenging work in progress, as well as ensuring existing inspection reports, DSEAR assessments, asset standards and safe operating procedures are reviewed and regularly updated.

What do I need?

To be successful, you will be an analytical thinker with strong planning and prioritisation skills. You will be an excellent written and verbal communicator and be confident articulating views on a preferred course of action in a clear manner.

In addition, we are looking for: a degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering at least five years’ experience in a Process Safety Engineer role in a high hazard industry, preferably with bio-gas experience or any other gas ideally chartered status/membership of a relevant industry body, eg, iCHEM E

Knowledge and understanding of: environmental regulations and best practice procedures sound knowledge of DSEAR, Process Safety, HAZOP and HAZID health and safety and environmental regulations and best practice procedures engineering principals mechanical tools, equipment and systems working knowledge of water supply, wastewater treatment and recycling operational assets (beneficial but not essential)
