With over 900 sites, the Motor Fuel Group (MFG) is the largest independent forecourt operator in the UK.

We are currently looking for a Head of H&S, Environmental Compliance and Sustainability who, in conjunction with the Group Infrastructure Director, will be responsible for these operations across the whole business.

Key accountabilities of this field-based position will be:

  • To be responsible for the group operations of the Health, Safety, Insurance, Environmental and Sustainability Department.
  • To drive programs and initiatives to deliver tangible results through your own team and manage the resource pool of multiple outsourced contractors and consultants.
  • To be responsible for the company’s ESG program, reporting its progress and practical implementation across the core business and subsidiaries.
  • To provide management information on Health, Safety and Environmental topics to the Group Infrastructure Director and the ESG committee in order to justify, support and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge and skills required are:

  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in a senior environmental and sustainability role, familiar with environmental legislation, energy management and low carbon/net zero carbon programs including SECR and ESOS.
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety regulations and practices and ideally having insurance frameworks experience.
  • Working knowledge of UN Sustainable Development Goals, EPA or other global or national environmental or sustainability guidelines and regulations.
  • Experience working on and implementing ISO 14001 and ideally a good understanding of ISO 45001.
  • Ability to work within a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Capacity to lead and participate in cross-functional project teams while maintaining positive and productive working relationships across a broad range of people and groups.
  • Ability to lead complex projects, operate between strategy and execution and anticipate and meet deadlines.
  • Capability to work on multiple projects within a fast-paced, fast changing and challenging working environment.
