We are recruiting for a Health and Safety Advisor to provide relevant and timely advice to our Teams.  Our successful candidate will be driver in the implementation of actions and changes needed to ensure that we are compliant with all our legal and moral responsibilities with regard to health and safety requirements. The Health and Safety Advisor will support GPaO in the implementation, management and continuous improvement of the health, safety, and wellbeing management system with the aim of preventing accidents, injuries and ill-health in the workplace.
 

What you’ll be doing
Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the management system framework and associated actions with regards to Occupational Health and Safety.  In collaboration with the Risk & Compliance Manager, you will identify gaps in health and safety practice and write and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance.


Coordinating GPaO Teams to ensure training schedules are maintained and optimised for effectiveness and compliance, this may include any relevant competencies such as First Aid, Fire Wardens, Manual Handling, DSE, COSHH, FLT Operations, PUWER, and General Risk Assessment.  You will also take the lead on activities as designated by the chair of the H & S committee and GPaO Management; collaborating across GPaO and beyond to deliver continuous improvement activities within our H & S Management System.
 

Providing guidance and oversight to the GPaO team and Managers ensuring timely investigation of accidents and incidents, taking appropriate remedial actions to prevent reoccurrence, preparation of reports and recommendations.  In addtion you will conduct regular audits of accident, near miss, incident and work place inspection records, ensuring corrective and preventative actions are fit for purpose and recorded accurately. Audit will also extend to any areas of the GPaO H & S and GHS & W Management systems.


Working in partnership with the Group HSW team in the development of shared training packages (online / traditional) and the adoption of common digital processes across business areas (Paper to Digital), you will undertake ergonomic assessments, maternity assessments and employee risk assessments across GPaO, and provide guidance on safety for vulnerable workers. Liaising with external consultants where specialist advice is required.


Ensuring your knowledge of global health and safety legislation is up to date and maintaining your knowledge of local standards and best practice is important, as well as providing ongoing maintenance of ISO45001:2018 and development of the standard, including involvement in the transition to an integrated management system.
 

Creating and developing timely and effective health and safety communications to promote health and safety and drive engagement across all media, you will also attend Health, Safety and Wellbeing meetings and organise as appropriate, including the preparation of pre and post-meeting presentation, documentation and records.  Managing the GPaO H&S inbox and respond to enquiries received in a timely manner, you will also take ownership of reporting H&S data to be discussed in various forums including Compliance Management Review and H&S Committee.  When required you will provide cover for the Risk & Compliance Manager in relation to H&S matters in their absence.


What we’re looking for
Qualifications

  • IOSH Managing Safely (essential)
  • Training/Coaching qualification would be an advantage.
  • Ergonomic assessor training would be an advantage.
  • Auditing experience would be an advantage

Experience

  • Basic understanding of health and safety legislation and its applicability to Cambridge Assessment.
  • Provision of advice/responding to queries, including a professional manner.
  • Excellent IT skills including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
