Health, Safety and Environmental Manager

We are looking for a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to join the English National Opera one of the largest performing arts organisations in the UK.

This is a unique opportunity to steer and support a safety culture and develop and promote The ENO new Environmental and Sustainability programme in line with Arts Council England’s 10 Year investment principles.

Reporting to the Director of Risk and Business Assurance this role will work alongside other key members of the Management team to ensure that the ENO operates in a compliant and safe way by providing high quality competent advice in Health, Safety and Environmental Management.

Your duties will include:

  • To advise across the company, revise, review and implement strategy with regard to business critical HS&E risks
  • Maintain a pragmatic, dynamic and driven approach to promoting and supporting HS&E across the organisation. Be an ambassador for HS&E and promote “blue sky thinking” which enables solutions to problems to be identified and implemented effectively.
  • Facilitate the implementation of policies and procedures which help reduce risk and support a positive HS&E culture.

The successful candidate:

  • Hold a British Safety Council Diploma / NEBOSH Diploma OR other IOSH / IIRSM recognised qualification  (Ideally already at or working towards level 5 or degree level qualification)
  • Hold a recognised qualification in Environmental Management OR be able to demonstrate vocational competency in Environmental Sustainability Management within previous roles. 
  • Hold full membership of IOSH and / or IIRSM (MIIRSM)
  • Should have at least 5 years’ experience in similar role together with experience of working with senior management in a medium to large business, ideally in a performing arts organisation or other similar destination type venue.
  • Have experience of advising on Health, Safety and environmental issues in a creative / technical environment (Or Similar) with experience and ability to offer pragmatic and practical advice through motivation, coaching and developing HS&E skill sets amongst all levels of the organisation including operational management and Directors.
