Irwin & Colton are pleased to be partnering with a leading London based University to identify a new Health and Safety Advisor. This well-recognised and highly regarded University has a large estate portfolio and well-known for its academic standards. This role is focused primarily on the biological laboratory, research and development environment and to assist with a team of technical professionals and report into the Deputy Head of Safety.
Health and safety is a top priority for the University and this role is focused on both consolidating the excellent work to date and helping to drive and develop the function further.
Responsibilities of the Health and Safety Advisor will include:
- Assisting on the development and delivery of health and safety across the University, ensuring this is fit for purpose and striving for best practice within research environments.
- Assisting on the delivery on opportunities to drive efficiency and modernise the health and safety function, including management systems.
- Assisting the drive of a regular program of audit and inspection, investigate any accidents as required, and assisting the delivery of robust reporting to senior management.
- Assist on training within the function; identifying needs and developing and delivering health and safety training, liaising with external training contractors, as required.
- Assisting Management with expert health and safety advice and knowledge to a range of senior stakeholders across the University.
The successful Health and Safety Advisor will have:
- Proven experience in a similar Health and Safety role; ideally within a research environment covering biosafety/biological science.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and hold GradIOSH status, ideally working towards Chartered
- Knowledge/Practical experience within a research environment covering biosafety/biological science.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience influencing and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail with a proven track record of managing multiple projects
