At Worcestershire County Council, our people work hard for the residents, communities and businesses of the area. In return, we look after their futures – and that includes taking good care of their occupational health and safety.

Reporting to the Head of HR Operations, you will be the subject matter expert and provide leadership and direction for occupational health and safety (OH&S) across the Council. A trusted source of expertise, you’ll advise senior management on a range of health and safety issues. You will also market and deliver services to a small number of external customers.

Leading your team, you’ll ensure OH&S is promoted as a council priority while embedding a strong health and safety culture. By regularly reviewing corporate policies and procedures, you’ll ensure a pragmatic and proportionate approach to risk. We’ll look to you to challenge existing practices and to design and implement new ways of working. You’ll also contribute to planning for major emergencies, including the current Covid-19 outbreak.

A Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), you’re likely to have experience of managing a professional occupational health and safety service within a multi-site environment.  This should be backed by a relevant degree and a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent qualifications). Experience of managing and motivating a small established team would be beneficial. Pragmatic, with an analytical approach to problem solving, you’ll also have excellent communication skills and the ability to persuade and influence at all levels.

For an informal discussion about the role please call Sabrina Jackson on 01905 844 785.  To apply,  please send your CV and a covering letter to recruitment@worcestershire.gov.uk

We are inclusive – this is important to us and we are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer.   Disability Confident is helping us recruit and retain great people to meet our workforce needs. If you have a disability and require reasonable adjustments, please let us know.

Application Closing Date:  Midday on Monday 1st March 2021

Proposed Interview Date: Interviews to take place on Friday 5th March 2021 with successful candidates progressing to a second stage interview on Tuesday 9th March 2021.
