We are looking for a talented health and safety advisor to join our team to help ensure the safety of our staff, visitors, contractors etc.

With a diverse range of operations from concerts to construction projects, horticulture to lab work and UK tourist attraction to overseas fieldwork, no two days will be the same. You will support all areas of the business at both Kew and Wakehurst by building effective relationships and providing sound expertise.

Kew is the world’s leading botanic gardens, at the forefront of plant and fungal science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major visitor attraction.

We want a world where plants and fungi are understood, valued and conserved – because our lives depend on them.

We use the power of our science and the rich diversity of our gardens and collections to provide knowledge, inspiration and understanding of why plants and fungi matter to everyone.

The Health and Safety Department works in close partnership with all the Directorates of Kew to help it achieve its mission and work. The Department does this by providing professional support and advice, including the production of policies, guidance, workshops and training. The Department also monitors, inspects and investigates to help ensure that staff and visitors are able to work and enjoy the sites safely.

Due to the nature of the organisation, and the size and complexity of the diverse activities it undertakes across all disciplines, RBG Kew has a wide range of health and safety related challenges and risks. The role of Health and Safety Advisor requires a firm understanding of health and safety law and related principles and the ability to apply this in the provision of competent and helpful support to colleagues.

The applicant will need to have extensive working knowledge and experience of providing health and safety support ideally within a medium to large, complex organisation.  This includes policy development and implementation.  In addition to general health and safety knowledge, it is desirable that the applicant has a working knowledge and experience of event safety and/or construction safety, including CDM 2015.

Our fantastic benefits package includes opportunities for continuous learning, a generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance, an Employee Assistance Programme and other wellbeing support such as cycle to work scheme and discounted gym membership. We also offer a competitive pension, an employee discount scheme and free entry into a wide range of national museums and galleries, as well access to our own beautiful gardens at Kew and Wakehurst.

If you are interested in this position, please visit our website for more information and to apply.

Closing Date: 29/11/2020

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from all sections of the community. We guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the post.
