New route to Chartered status
IOSH has launched a new professional development assessment route to Chartered membership.
There are two ways IOSH members can become Chartered.
Professional development assessment (PDA)
The new PDA route replaces the former initial professional development. The change is being made as part of IOSH’s work to future-proof the profession and ensure it can continue to influence and prepare for upcoming challenges and opportunities.
PDA is the only route for certified members to gain Chartered status. It is a qualification-based progression route in which candidates gather evidence over a period of between 12 and 18 months. PDA aligns with the IOSH competency framework, focuses on skills needed for the evolving world of work and is delivered by paid assessors. It is hosted on the Blueprint platform.
There is no length of membership requirement to undertake the PDA but it is only open to certified members. They must have an up-to-date continuing professional development record in Blueprint.
Experiential
IOSH recognises that the PDA route isn’t viable for all members, so introduced the experiential route as an alternative. This is open to members at affiliate and technical level who have between five and 10 years’ experience in a relevant OSH-based leadership role but who don’t have an IOSH-accredited Level 6 or Level 7 qualification. The process takes three to six months to complete.
What they involve
Both routes involve the same process. Members must undertake the following four components and also pass the ethical practice in OSH e-learning and assessment.
- An online knowledge assessment
- A portfolio of evidence
- A professional discussion paper
- A professional discussion interview.
